Although I am not actually buying clothes right now since I updated my Winter Wardrobe in January - I am enjoying making wishlists.
Nordstrom Shift dress // Urban Outfitters Scarf // Zoeva Brushes //Zara Biker Jacket // ASOS shirt // Topshop Bomber Jacket // Nordstrom T-shirt // ASOS Culottes Since I started the Capsule wardrobe thing last fall, after reading Vivianna's post and Caroline's Blog I am only buying clothes that I need for a particular season and only clothes I have put on my "to buy" list. I have stuck with the basics and my bank accounts thank me for it :). This has also helped me figure out my style and stopped me from buying things I don't need, but buy because they are on sale! (*facepalm). I now make lists and only get the stuff on the list whenever I update my Capsule wardrobe for the next season or cycle. This is not only practical but pretty fun too.

So i kinda suck at being healthy or maintaining a proper healthy lifestyle.Recently I got a wake up call! I attended a seminar about heart attacks in women and how different the symptoms are from those in men. Most women and even the health workers attending to them do not realize they are having a heart attack until its too late. So this woman was talking about the symptoms we should look out for because in the last years more women than men have died from heart attacks. The numbers shocked me. I thought to myself that I needed to change my lifestyle; exercise more, eat other things other than fries and just do better. So lately thats what I have been doing. My day starts real early. Having a shake whether just a Protein shake or a fruit smoothie cuts my breakfast preparing time plus it is healthier than my previous kinda breakfast. Another plus is that i can drink it on the go if I am running late. Been doing it for a while and I love it. I feel full until lunchtime. Been working out in the gym 2-3 times a week. Netflix has been my treadmill buddy lately. More on keeping up workouts later. I also got a shaker from Trimr via Amazon. Good for the Protein shake days as it mixes everything pretty well. It has a straw as well as a part for chugging. It can also double as a fancy water bottle ;) Another time saving trick I have found is to figure out how much of each fruit I need and pack the portions I need in Ziploc bags and just pop them in the Blender in the morning.
I put 1/2 cup blueberries 1/4 cup strawberries 1/2 banana In the morning I add milk and scoop of protein and blend it all together. On my naughty days I also add a scoop of ice cream. I tend to use very ripe to over-ripe bananas as they are sweeter. Scientific research is a real complicated venture. Some days your experiments work and you are on a roll. On other days you never observe what you were expecting. This is not necessarily a bad thing, many phenomena were found this way either as something that hindered an experiment from working or as a mistake. Sometimes when you cant see things go your way in the lab you try again and again and again but if the trend is not seen again it might have been just a fluke! Sigh!
You cant continue wasting time and money on something that cant be reproduced so what do you do? You move on to another project, something else that shows better results and a promise of a real find in the future. Most researchers know this but when it actually happens in your work you feel like you are giving up and maybe if you would run the protocol one more time you would see good results ...at least I do. My work is my baby its just hard to move on after a failed attempt but hey you learn from it and re-doing it a hundredth time is not going to make something magically appear. Moving on doesn't mean giving up on the project or forgetting it. It means while you work on other scientific endeavors you keep the other idea at the back of your head, at the back burner. Who knows maybe one day you might come back to it with fresh eyes and new perspectives. I guess the same applies to other things in life, sometimes if things are not working its better to move on. Being stuck and obsessing on the same thing does not help change it. New ideas come while you are already working Joggers!!! I have seen a couple and I am definitely in love with them. I tried some on at Pacsun. I nearly bought them ... But you know me I rarely buy full priced items,I am waiting for them to go on sale! Scented Candle! I am not one for scented candles but I was at Bath and Body works and this Honeysuckle candle just got to me. It smells so beautiful. Bag! You always need a new bag! You dont even need a reason to buy one. This Aldo bag can fit a 15 inch computer too ... great or what? Waiting for it to go on sale too.
So it was my birthday a couple of days ago. I had a blast and obviously a moment of self reflection. I decided to make a list of the things I think are important that I have learnt so far.
My morning song these days ... I try to save but as we all know sometimes you get sidetracked and you forget to put some money in the piggy bank or nowadays in the savings account. Its hard to see money you have just earned go into another account and sit there to wait for the rainy day. It always seems like a good idea to use it now doesn't it? Well its a bad idea... save that ish! Winter is coming!! ( I stopped watching Game of thrones after the Red wedding episode but I am still a sucker for that line ;) Ok so for those who have never watched it by "Winter", I mean hard times or surprise expenses like a broken computer, losing your phone or even being laid off. You always need some moneys stashed away to cushion you from the unexpected financial blows. I had a wake up call when I was reading #Girlboss. Sophia Amoruso talks about how you should do a direct deposit directly into your savings account every time you get paid. You wont miss money that you never saw! Good point! She says she got the idea of saving 10% of your salary from the book The richest man in Babylon which someone has already been trying to make me read for a year now and its on my long list of books to read! She explains it very well... but how can you put away money if you use it all up anyways? There has to be a way for you to use it wisely so you can put the 10% in your your savings account! This is what I have discovered works for me the best.
Have fun saving! |
